Thea Lafond is Dominica’s first qualified athlete for the 2020 summer Olympic games to be held in Tokyo Japan.
Lafond booked her spot on the big stage with a jump of 14.33 meters on the weekend, shaving the Olympic qualifying mark of 14.32 meters.
“We’re extremely excited,” she said. Lafond added, “This is what we’ve been working towards for the last three years and we’re very happy to have qualified for the Olympics this early, especially after coming off a major injury.”
In 2018, Thea Lafond jumped 13.92 meters to secure a historic bronze medal for Dominica at the Commonwealth Games.
Now, she hoping to put in a dominant performance for Dominica when the Tokyo Olympics gets on the way in the summer.
