The St. Mary’s Primary School are the champions of the 2019 NBD Sports Division Primary School Under-13 Boys Football tournament.
SMP defeated the St. Luke’s Primary School 4-2 in the final on Friday at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium with Malakai Bonney and Angel Bellot scoring two each to lead the charge.
The SMP boys controlled the game for much of the first half following a goal scored by Malakai Bonney, approximately 10 seconds after the first whistle, the quickest possible start one can ever think of in any football final.
The St. Mary’s Primary would go on to win the match 4-2. Malakai Labad scoring for the St. Luke’s Primary.
Coach of the SMP, Lenny Walsh says his boys came to final to win after losing last year’s final.
“A very convincing win,” Walsh said. “We lost 7-1 in the finals last year and the boys came back here in this years finals and the captain stepped up, he scored his goals, very important that he stepped up to the plate…everyone played their role.”
Meantime, Coach of St. Luke’s Primary, Ray Charles says everything went wrong from the start of the game.
“We had a couple blunders. Our players didn’t go for the win they were more talking on the field and their discipline let them down,” Charles said.
He further stated, “next season we’ll have to try a bit harder. We’ll have a much younger team again so what we have to do we have to train them more, start them early and then we’ll bounce back.”
