Malakai Xavier and Yawani Registe were in fine form on Tuesday as they both performed with bat and ball in the Massy United Insurance Secondary School Under 20 Cricket Championship match at the Botanic Gardens.
Batting first, the Pierre Charles Secondary School were led by Yawani Registe’s unbeaten 108 to finish on 172 all out.
Support came from Ashwan Lockhart who scored 34.
Malakai Xavier picked up from where he left off last season as he bagged 6/60 from 23.2 overs, Tarrick Toussaint 1/44 and Justin Jude 1/28.
In their turn at the crease, Malakai Xavier belted his way to 118 before the Goodwill Secondary were bundled out for 146, just 26 runs short. Yawani Registe took 4/18, Anan Bruno 2/25 and Xavier Mitchell 2/20 bowling for the PCSS.
In the second innings, Malakai Xavier ripped through the PCSS batting line up again as he bagged 8 for 18 from 6 overs. Tarrick Toussaint also got 1/17 as the PCSS were bowled out for 82.
Chasing 109 for victory, the Goodwill Secondary finished 24/5 at stumps with Xavier Mitchell claiming 3 for 11 and Yawani Registe 2 for 11 giving the Pierre Charles Secondary School the win on first innings points.
Captain of the Pierre Charles Secondary School, Yawani Registe told the media “I was in good form today and it feels nice I could contribute to the team but I find we could do better in the field”.
“I want my guys to keep their heads up because we have other games to play,” he said.
On his unbeaten ton, Registe said, “My hundred today I just want to dedicate it to my niece”.
Meanwhile, Malakai Xavier says the performance from his team was a good one. “The guys put in the best effort and I appreciate it and I’m looking forward to the next match.”
