The Intermediate Cricket League of the Dominica Cricket Association commenced with bang on Saturday as Ruben’s Bakery Christians took on Starlights Sports Club at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.
Starlight SC won the toss and elected to bowl first on a grassy wicket that looked good for bowling and offered some tremendous bounce.
Ruben’s Bakery Christians had a slow start in their innings as they were pegged back early on to lose Micah Joseph for 3. Captain and opener, Cuthbert Maronie (84) steadied the innings to carry his team to a reasonable 193 for 6 in their 40 overs.
Christians also lost Keron Matthew through injury after sustaining a knock to his finger which required treatment. Matthew later returned to hit a well played 42 before he was out lbw.
Richard Anselm (2) and Derrick Edwards (2) were the pick of the bowlers for Starlight Sports Club.
In reply, Starlight Sports Club were in deep trouble as Micah Joseph bagged 4/10 in 5 overs and Alyan Christopher 2/9 in 5 overs to give Christians the upper hand in the match and to reduce the Starlight SC top order before the bowling change.
Starlight went on to score 80 all out with Derrick Edward getting 20. Starlight losing by 114 runs.
