DBC Christian Worriors picked up the first trophy of the Ronald Charles Roseau Valley Softball T20 Cricket League on the weekend.
With only three teams present for the long-awaited start of the Softball T20 League in the Roseau Valley, the DBC Christian Worriors made light work of Cochrane twice to claim the first title.
Playing in the first match, DBC Christian Worriors locked horns with Cochrane. DBC batted first and posted 53 for 4 from their allotted 5 overs.
Cochrane in reply could only muster 43/4 from their 5 overs.
In the second game, Cochrane regrouped and blasted their way to a mighty 72/4 from 5 0vers against Trafalgar.
Needing 73 for victory, Trafalgar fell short by 23 runs (50/2).
The win over Trafalgar ensured that Cochrane met up with DBC Christian Worriors in the finals. This time though, Cochrane won the toss and elected to bat first.
However, committed work in the field restricted the Cochrane team to 39 for 5. The DBC Worriors were not done yet as they raced their way to 45 for 2 to win by 8 wickets and claim the Hon. Ronald Charles T20 SOFT BALL CRICKET LEAGUE 2019.
Captain of the DBC Christian Worriors, Kimran Jean-Jacques says “We were short of players and we knew we had to come and play hard. Before the game we had a little talk, we decided we were going to field hard, we going bowl hard and have some fun.”
“I must say with leadership like John Joseph and Kelvin Vital, experience people in sports, they know once we have fun and we encourage each other we know we would get over the line. So it was a good game, we had fun and we won.”
Jean-Jacques further stated in his post-match interview, “we are definitely looking to winning the league and we believe we are going to win.”
