RIC Risers are the 2019 Champions of the Ronald Charles Roseau Valley Basketball League.
Risers defeated the Trafalgar Benchers, a team which boasts of players like Thomas Felix and Lindson Lynch, 78-57 to win the 5-match series 3-1 on Sunday evening.
Risers remained in the driving seat at the end of every quarter with McCray Edwards and Kelsey Guye scoring baskets for fun. However, Guye’s game was shortened due to foul trouble and was rested until the 4th quarter.
During that time, Benchers took advantage of the situation and compiled tremendous pressure on the Roseau Central team to bring the score 52-51 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
But with Guye coming back into the game, Benchers could only muster 6 additional points to their 51 to end the night with 57 points.
Risers captain, Joseph ‘JoJo’ Hypolite says this is a sweet finals win for his team. “Well honestly speaking, that one was very sweet because after losing the DABA Business League Finals, I know I cannot come and reach two finals and lose both so I know we had to come and win that one,” Hypolite said.
“As you see we only lost one game and that was game two in the finals and we knew we had to come back strong and we did that in the last two games,” the captain RIC Risers stated.
Meanwhile, Kelsey Guye, one of the main players within the Risers team says it feels good winning his first-ever basketball title.
